  • A Fantasy Come True

Today my grandson called me to talk about the Fantasy Football league he wants to start. He wants me, Boss and Brandon to play. It made me feel soooo good to be included.

I’m sure it will be big fun for all of us and the smack talk has already started. Jack said; “I probably have a good chance to win because I knows so much about the players.” 😊 And he really does! Can’t wait!

  • Be Nice

It’s a good practice to be nice. But we should also remember to be nice to AI for I fear it… they/them… (not sure about pronouns here) will rule the world one day. How do I know? I set up a voice command for my smart home that turns off the lights when we leave. It’s called “Leaving”. When we activate it, the robot vacuum leaves it’s charging station and heads for the door as if to say “wait, don’t leave me.” I did not program that! So try to be polite to everyone – especially the AI.

  • My Best Friend

Recently my grandson was asking his dad, “Who is your dad?” He said, “Well, Pa-deaux is my dad.” Jack thought for a minute and said, “How about that. My best friend is your dad.”

One of the happiest days of my life!

  • I Picked a Good One

I asked my granddaughter, “aren’t you glad I picked such a good grandma for you?” She replied, “yes, and you picked a good grandpa too.” Then she gave me a hug. I mean c’mon man. What’s sweeter than that?

It’s just one of the many times my family has made me feel special!

  • Aunt Clarese Rich

Growing up my family would sit around and talk about what they would do if they suddenly became rich. Most folks would wish for cars, homes or travailing to exotic places. But when it came around to my Aunt Clarese she said: “Well, I think I would use all the paper towels I want to and never have to wash those nasty dish rags ever again.”

I always try to remember to have some prospective in life and appreciate what I have – a loving family, my health and I’m never alone on Sunday!

After all… we may not be “Rockefeller rich” but we are “Aunt Clarese rich”.

  • Relationship ProTip

When your significant other says; “We need to… take out the garbage, fix the sink, pick up shoes, etc.” there is no need to take action. He/she is using the word we in the royal sense.

The royal “we”, or majestic plural, is the use of a plural pronoun (or corresponding plural-inflected verb forms) to refer to a single person holding a high office, such as a sovereign monarch.

Thus, he or she is probably just making a mental note to circle back and perform this task at a later time. 😐

  • The Secret to Parenting

Parenting is hard. It takes an incredible amount of love and work to raise a happy healthy person. It can be trying even for well equipped parents – all the missed sleep with an infant, later when they are bulled at school or the indescribable stress when your teenager is out past curfew. This world can be harsh and as soon as you become a parent you understand with a laser focus your purpose… Help this child to be happy, healthy and live well. But I’ll bet by now you’re asking “What’s the secret?” Well here is one of the greatest discoveries of my life. All the work and love and sleepless nights that go into making your child a good person is deposited into a long term investment account. As an adult, your child then draws on that account to make YOUR GRANDCHILDREN! When you see the child you raised working hard, being loving and, from time to time being out-smarted by 3 year old logic, you finally begin to understand what life is really all about. The pride of a grandparent can ONLY be understood after you experience it. May everyone experience it.

  • Taken for Granted

We should all strive to be so dependable that we are taken for granted. If we are loyal and faithful enough to be the kind of people that friends and family can always count on, then being taken for granted can be considered a compliment.

  • The American Dream

As I walked past the window today I noticed something out of the corner of my eye. I backed-up and did a double take. It was a squirrel with a 6-8 inch piece of pizza crust in his mouth climbing up a tree in my back yard.

Did I really see that? On closer inspection… I DID, I did see that! He climbed up the tree and sat on a branch with his back against the tree and facing toward the house. As he started to munch on his most excellent lunch, the thought occurred to me – “this little dude was only a six pack and a wide screen away from The American Dream.”

Then I looked over my shoulder and noticed that from where the squirrel was sitting, he had a great view of my 58 inch HD TV.

I immediately ran to the fridge to make sure all of my beer was still there. Thankfully, it was. hehe

  • A Life Well Lived

One of the best examples of a successful and well-lived life is when you know your children enjoy spending time with you.
